Farmer Leader Jagjeet Singh Dallewal Hospitalized, Security Increased After Protests at Borders

Punjab Desk, March 20, 2025: Farmer leader Jagjeet Singh Dallewal has been transferred from the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Jalandhar. This comes after the Punjab Police took action late last evening to remove farmers from the Punjab-Haryana Khanauri and Shambhu borders, where they had been staging protests over various demands.

The protests, which had been ongoing at these borders, led to increased security measures. Sources indicate that a heavy police presence was deployed outside the hospital, and security around the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border was tightened after Haryana Police removed concrete barricades that had been blocking farmers’ movement.

Police Actions and Statements

SSP Singh, speaking to the media, clarified that the police did not use force, as the protesting farmers cooperated with authorities. He mentioned, “Farmers had been protesting at the Shambhu border for a long time. Today, in the presence of a duty magistrate, the police gave them a proper warning and cleared the area. Some farmers expressed their desire to return home, so they were sent back in buses. Additionally, structures and vehicles were being removed, and the entire road was being cleared for traffic.”
