Punjab Launches Free Treatment Scheme; Know Who Will Benefit

In a major decision aimed at ensuring universal health care, the Punjab Government has announced a free treatment and health insurance scheme for all residents of the state.
Coverage for 65 Lakh Families
Under this historic initiative, around 65 lakh families — nearly 6.5 crore people — will receive health insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh per family. Officials said Punjab is poised to become the first region in the world not only to promise universal health care but to actually provide the infrastructure to deliver it.
The scheme will soon be implemented across the entire state.
Who Will Benefit?

Every resident of Punjab, without any income limit

No income certificate or ration card required

Only Aadhaar card or Voter ID will serve as the health card for cashless treatment

Government employees, Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers are also included

All residents, regardless of blue or yellow ration cards, will be covered
What Will Be Free?
Under the scheme:

All medical treatments in government and private hospitals will be completely free

Coverage applies to all types of illnesses

Treatments will be cashless through the health card
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the government aims to ensure that every citizen of Punjab gets free, high-quality health care without discrimination.
