Chandigarh: In a visionary step aimed at building a healthier and more vibrant Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has launched ‘CM Di Yogshala’, the state’s first mass-scale, government-led Yoga initiative. This pioneering model blends public health with employment generation, rapidly evolving into a community-driven movement that reflects Mann’s holistic governance approach.

While welfare schemes such as free electricity, Sarkar Tuhade Dwar, and Aam Aadmi Clinics continue to benefit lakhs across Punjab, ‘CM Di Yogshala’ distinguishes itself by focusing on preventive healthcare—addressing lifestyle diseases even before they take root.

A Vision That Sparked a Movement

At a time when stress, hypertension, diabetes, and other lifestyle disorders are rising sharply in Punjab, CM Bhagwant Mann recognised that long-term solutions must be both accessible and sustainable. ‘CM Di Yogshala’ was born out of this understanding—designed not only to support physical well-being but also to foster mental resilience and revive Punjab’s wellness culture.

The initiative was framed around two key objectives:

  1. Providing free Yoga classes across the state, guided by trained instructors.

  2. Generating meaningful employment for the youth by certifying them as Yoga trainers.

This dual-purpose model has brought Yoga from closed studios to open parks, rural centers, and community spaces, with thousands now participating in daily sessions.

From Healing to Employment: A Dual-Purpose Scheme

To bridge the gap in trained instructors, the Punjab Government established specialised teams of certified Yoga professionals. These instructors conduct free sessions in neighborhoods, villages, and public parks, ensuring that wellness is literally brought to citizens’ doorsteps.

Simultaneously, the program is empowering Punjab’s youth by offering training, certification, and career opportunities in Yoga instruction—creating a new workforce driven by preventive health care.

This unique blend of public health promotion and employment generation has positioned ‘CM Di Yogshala’ as a model with national relevance, inspiring discussions on similar initiatives in other states.
