Jind: A major controversy has erupted at Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University (CRSU) after nearly 50 students accused three faculty members of inappropriate behaviour, including obscene WhatsApp chats, late-night calls, and sexually explicit questions. The allegations, originally raised on September 27, resurfaced on Wednesday, triggering protests and political reactions across Haryana.
According to students, the three contract-based faculty members frequently sent objectionable messages and pressured female students into obscene conversations. In one instance, a faculty member allegedly asked a student if she was a virgin. Another is accused of making casteist remarks against SC and BC/OBC students, while a third reportedly called BA and MA students on WhatsApp as late as 11pm.
VC Confirms Suspension; No FIR Yet
CRSU Vice-Chancellor Rampal Saini confirmed to TOI that all three accused faculty members were suspended soon after the students approached him on September 27.
“We relieved them from service as soon as the university reopened after holidays. A strict, detailed investigation is underway,” he said.
However, he also confirmed that no police complaint has been filed so far, raising questions from both students and political leaders.
ABVP Protest, Demands Strict Action
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a strong protest on Tuesday, burning effigies of the accused teachers on campus.
ABVP member Rohan Saini alleged:
“These faculty members made obscene remarks during and after lectures, asked personal questions, and made female students uncomfortable repeatedly.”
Political Reaction: Hooda Demands FIR
Reacting to the controversy, Congress MP Deepender Hooda said that mere suspension was inadequate.
“A criminal case must be registered. Suspension alone is not enough,” he stated.
Students Escalate Matter to PMO, UGC & State Government
With no FIR filed even after two months, the students escalated their complaint on November 27 by writing to:
-
The Prime Minister’s Office
-
Union Education Minister
-
UGC Chairman
-
Haryana Chief Minister
-
State Education Minister
-
National and State Women’s Commissions
-
National and State SC/ST Commissions
-
Women’s rights organisations
One student also alleged that an accused teacher threatened her through his wife, who is a hostel warden.
University Assures Stringent Action
The Vice-Chancellor said an internal inquiry committee is examining the matter in detail.
“If the allegations are proven, such individuals will not be allowed to work anywhere. This act is shameful for the teaching community,” he added.
Case Still Awaits Police Action
Despite the severity of the allegations and increasing public pressure, no FIR has been filed yet, leaving students demanding accountability and swift legal action.
