The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday suspended Amritsar North MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh for five years, citing anti-party activities. The disciplinary action comes days after Singh publicly criticized the arrest of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a disproportionate assets case.
A former IPS officer and first-time MLA, Kunwar Vijay Pratap’s remarks reportedly embarrassed the party, which is currently running an aggressive statewide campaign against drug trafficking. The party’s political affairs committee deemed his statements as a violation of party discipline and ideology.
Party sources emphasized that AAP would not tolerate internal dissent, especially when it jeopardizes their stance on key issues like the drug menace in Punjab.
