Truth vs. Cover-up? Medical reports challenge police version of Patiala incident.

Patiala, March 19, 2025 – The medical reports of Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath and his son Angad Singh, examined shortly after an alleged brutal assault by Patiala police on March 13, confirm that neither of them was under the influence of alcohol, contradicting police claims.

“This belies the claims of the police that we were consuming alcohol. It was sheer goondaism by the cops, and they deserve the harshest punishment,” said Angad Singh.

The Patiala police had registered an FIR under Section 194(2) of the BNS, which carries a maximum penalty of one month’s imprisonment, a fine of up to Rs 1,000, or both. However, the FIR is based on a complaint by a local dhaba owner, who alleged that Colonel Bath and his son were drinking, but does not mention the 12 men who allegedly attacked them.

“This shows the intent of the FIR, which is merely an eyewash,” said Jaswinder Bath, wife of Colonel Pushpinder Bath. “Despite clear medical records proving grievous injuries, the police have acted on the dhaba owner’s statement instead of our complaint. Shockingly, the FIR does not name any guilty officer, despite us identifying them.”

Jaswinder Bath also expressed concerns about her family’s safety. “Even though the accused officers have been suspended, they continue to enjoy security cover, official vehicles, and are present in Patiala. We have requested police protection, but no action has been taken.”

She plans to meet Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) to seek justice.

Meanwhile, Patiala SSP Nanak Singh was unavailable for comments on the matter.
