Chandigarh:
In a significant verdict in the Neha Ahlawat rape and murder case, the court has convicted the accused, Monu, and sentenced him to life imprisonment, along with a fine of ₹50,000.
In its judgment, the court described the crime as extremely brutal and shocking to society. The prosecution successfully proved, through strong evidence and witness testimonies, that Monu raped Neha and later murdered her.
The case had sparked widespread anger and public outrage across Chandigarh and nearby regions. Following the incident, the police acted swiftly, arrested the accused, completed the investigation, and filed the charge sheet in court on time.
However, after the verdict, Monu spoke to the media outside the court, claiming that he had been falsely implicated. He stated that he had not committed any “heinous act” and alleged that the police had framed him without justification. Monu also said that he would challenge the verdict in the High Court.
On the other hand, police officials maintained that the investigation was conducted strictly on the basis of evidence and that there was strong material on record, which led to the conviction.
Family members of Neha Ahlawat expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, calling it an important step toward justice.
The case had remained a major topic of discussion in Chandigarh and surrounding areas for a long time, and with the court’s verdict now delivered, the victim’s family has found some measure of relief.
