Chandigarh | July 5, 2025 — With senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia once again in legal crosshairs, his wife, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, has stepped into the political spotlight, galvanizing party workers and asserting her presence as a rising leader within the Akali ranks.

Majithia, accused in a ₹540 crore drug money laundering case, was taken into custody last week after a special court refused to grant him interim protection. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has adjourned the hearing to July 8, prolonging the legal and political uncertainty surrounding the influential leader.

In the shadow of his arrest, Ganieve Kaur—who currently serves as the MLA from Majitha—has taken center stage. Known until now for her low-profile political style, she is now leading constituency-level meetings, addressing supporters, and issuing strong statements against the AAP government.

“This is not justice, it’s political targeting,” she declared during a recent address in Amritsar, accusing the Mann-led Punjab government of misusing investigative agencies to silence opposition voices.

The SAD, meanwhile, has launched a full-blown offensive, terming the arrest a case of “political vendetta.” Former Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal called the action “a deliberate attempt to muzzle dissent” and warned of state-wide protests if the harassment of opposition leaders continues.

Party workers and leaders have intensified their campaign across Majha and Doaba regions, holding protests, addressing press conferences, and mobilizing cadre support around the Majithia family.

Analysts view Ganieve Kaur’s assertive emergence as a potential shift within the SAD’s internal dynamics. “She is filling the vacuum created by her husband’s legal troubles and may well become a key figure in shaping SAD’s outreach, especially among women and youth,” said a political observer.

As the next court date nears, the political temperature in Punjab continues to rise. Whether this moment marks the beginning of a larger leadership role for Ganieve Kaur remains to be seen—but for now, she has undeniably stepped into a more prominent and powerful position within the Akali fold.
