Kathua accident — wedding car falls into deep gorge; 3 dead, including groom

Kathua wedding accident — A wedding celebration turned tragic in Bani village, Kathua district, Jammu & Kashmir, when a car carrying members of the wedding party — including the groom — plunged into a deep gorge on Bhandar Road. The car fell approximately 150–200 feet into the ravine.

🔹 Casualties and Injuries

  • Deceased: Three people died in the crash:

    • Vicky (the groom) — died on the spot

    • Jeevan — also died on the spot.

    • Rakesh Kumar — succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

  • Injured: Two others were rescued:

    • Shushpal Sharma — sustained head injury and a fractured left leg. Mohan Singh, aged 22 — suffered a head injury.

Both wounded individuals were referred to the Government Medical College, Kathua for treatment.

🔹 What Happened

According to police, the wedding car — part of a “barat” (wedding procession) — lost control on Bhandar Road (near Fral Nala) while travelling to the bride’s house. The vehicle then plunged into a gorge late Thursday evening.

Authorities have filed an FIR and launched an investigation. Early reports suggest poor visibility (“darkness”) and slippery road conditions may have contributed to the tragic accident.
