Tension gripped Moga’s Baghapurana area on Wednesday as hundreds of villagers took to the streets demanding the immediate arrest of those involved in the murder of Jatinder Singh, a youth from the nearby village Chand Purana. The protesters blocked the main chowk, bringing traffic to a complete standstill and staging a massive sit-in against the police administration.

According to villagers, Jatinder Singh had been missing since 15 November, and his family had reported the matter to the police. During the search, on 18 November, his body was found in a drain located between Chand Nawan and Chand Purana, sparking widespread anger in the community.

The protesters alleged that despite the victim’s mother naming the accused, one of the key suspects had still not been arrested. Infuriated over the delay in action, villagers assembled at the town’s main chowk around 1 pm and blocked all four routes, crippling traffic movement across the area.

Upon receiving information about the protest, DSP Dalvir Singh Sidhu and SHO Jatinder Singh reached the spot and held discussions with the victim’s family and the demonstrators. DSP Sidhu stated that a complaint had already been registered on 16 November based on the statement of Jatinder’s mother, Kulwant Kaur, and that a murder case was added after the recovery of the body.

He assured the protesters that all named accused would be arrested soon and would not evade the law.

Due to the blockade, traffic came to a halt in the main chowk area. Heavy vehicles were forced to stand still on the roads, while smaller vehicles attempted to navigate through inner lanes, creating congestion in residential areas as well. Passengers travelling by buses faced significant inconvenience as the gridlock persisted for hours.
