Encounter Near Attari: Most Wanted Smuggler Harpreet Singh Alias Happy Injured in Police Firing

A high-intensity encounter unfolded today between Punjab Police and a notorious smuggler behind an old government garden near the Attari border. The accused, Harpreet Singh alias Happy, sustained a bullet injury during the exchange of fire and is currently in police custody.

Police recovered 534 grams of heroin and a pistol from the site. According to DSP Attari Lakhwinder Singh Kaler, the injured accused is a wanted smuggler with multiple cases registered against him, including a recent shootout at a police checkpoint near Neshta village, which had led to the death of a passerby.

After receiving a tip-off, the Gharinda police cordoned off the area. On being surrounded, Happy opened fire once again. Police retaliated, injuring him in the leg. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Officials have confirmed that interrogation is underway and ongoing cases are being further investigated.
