Shopkeepers at Hollywood Market on VIP Road are facing a severe parking crisis, which they blame on warehouses and delivery personnel of online food and grocery delivery companies.

According to the traders, hundreds of delivery boys associated with companies like Swiggy, Blinkit, and BigBasket occupy the entire parking area of the market, leaving no space for customers or shop owners to park their vehicles.

Impact on business

The shopkeepers claim that the situation has seriously affected their business. Due to lack of parking, frequent arguments between delivery boys and customers, and incidents of misbehavior with women customers, footfall in the market has dropped significantly.
Many shop owners said they are now unable to reach their own shops by car or bike.

They further alleged that warehouses operating in the basement often place goods in corridors, blocking entry and exit routes. In addition, loading and unloading trucks reportedly park for hours, causing traffic congestion and obstructing movement within the market.

Complaints ignored

Shopkeepers said they have repeatedly approached the police, municipal council, and building owners, but no permanent solution has been provided so far. They have appealed to the administration to ensure that these companies operate in a regulated manner so that other businesses are not affected.

Municipal Council response

Responding to the issue, Municipal Council Executive Officer Parminder Singh Bhatti said:

“We have not received any formal complaint so far. However, I am immediately sending an enforcement team to inspect the situation. If any individual or company is misusing parking space, they will be removed.”

The shopkeepers hope that swift administrative action will bring relief and restore normal business activity in the market.
