Waqf Registration Deadline Ends Today; Spotlight on Humayun Kabir’s Next Move

The final day for registering Waqf properties on the Centre’s UMEED portal has arrived. After months of resisting the implementation of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, the West Bengal government last week directed officials to upload details of all Waqf properties on the online platform.

As reported earlier, around 10,000 of the state’s 80,480 Waqf properties had been successfully registered on the portal by Monday night.

Humayun Kabir Likely to Resign

Suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has announced he will resign today. Kabir is also expected to launch a new political party on December 22.

Claiming he was being targeted within the TMC, Kabir said,
“We will contest 135 seats in the next Assembly elections, fighting both the BJP and the TMC. If the TMC has the guts, let them face me.”

His next steps are being closely watched in the state’s political circles.

The North Bengal Literary Festival and Little Magazine Mela begins today in Raiganj. The three-day event is jointly organised by the Paschim Banga Bangla Academy and the District Information & Cultural Office.
